Democratic Side of US Government

The United States of America was established through the bloody and strenuous efforts of the federalists such as G. Washington and John Adams. When the Independence was declared, the patriots who fought for the freedom of the colonies in the British monarch were proposed that the government they intend to create shall derive its power from the consent of the governed. They also proclaimed that the people should have the absolute power to establish and abolish any government that does not adhere to their ideals and principles. They also mentioned in the proposal that they will not support any tyrannical or despotic government.

The Declaration of Independence also included that the public has right to abolish the government that becomes destructive against the inherent rights of the people to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. These provisions were made to avoid the abuses, tyranny and despotism in the future of US politics.

The US constitution has given the privilege to the common people for the widest expanse of participation in governance and politics. The structure of the government itself offers the substantial participation of the large number of citizens. The federal and state level of governance ensures that public is provided with enough venues for participation in the national and local politics. However if we take a closer look at this structure then we will find that the US politics is more focalized for the active participation of the citizens. The people of US feel the touch of government officials with themselves as they can visit and talk to them anytime. This form of US government conveys the principle of democratic ruling that government is for the people and by the people.

Each government has its own style, structure and form of manifestation. All over the world, the structure of US government is being followed widely because of its effectiveness. The way of responsiveness to the citizen’s need and plights is the tried and tested experience of US government that truly represents the democratic nation. US government involves the decision of their citizen in its every political, social and economic decision.

The Terrorist News

Fear is a powerful tool. No one wants to live in fear, we all want to know about what threatens us and we all want to know what we can do about it, how to look out for it. It’s human nature. It makes sense.

Full-time news channels are entirely aware of this. It hasn’t taken too long for certain purporters of up-to-date information and stories to realize that the scarier an issue is, the more it seems to relate directly to the individual viewer, the more people will watch, the more people will want to know more and stay watching, viewing those preciously valuable advertising slots.

Terrorists spread terror. It’s the very definition of the word. The goal of a terrorist is to force a person to live in fear to such a degree that they change their ways to stymie that fear. To feel safe. Benjamin Franklin famously wrote that “they who can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety”.

When is the last time you remember the ‘Threat Meter’ (Low, Guarded, Elevated, High, Extreme) actually dropping below ‘Elevated’? As the fantastically sardonic website ThreatMeter.com writes in an open letter to terrorists, “The threat of danger is good for profit and the government, actual danger is bad for everyone”. Even going as far as to satirically thanking the exporters of fear “for this exciting business opportunity”.

ThreatMeter.com might be written for comedic appeal, but it sure makes a good point. Fear keeps us clinging to safety. Abandoning rational thought because we perceive our lives to be in danger. It’s the most basic instinct (well, depending on which philosopher you ask), the will to live.

So next time you turn on the TV and hear about how the latest toy factory opening in Yemen is directly affecting your safety as a member of the threatened nation of the United States of America, remember, these news writers and anchors mean you no harm, they’re just doing their best to make the largest profit possible when nothing else matters. Got to make a living somehow, right?

Where Does the Democratic Party Come From

When you’re asked “are you a Republican or a Democrat”, it’s easy to answer which side you’re on, but do you really know how your political party started? Most people in the United States have no idea how either the Democratic or Republican party started, and that’s not a good thing! We should all know our history as so many people have died in order to give us the world and choices that we have now.

The Democratic Party
When you look back at history you’ll find that the Democratic party was actually started in the 1830’s. Before it existed it was actually the Democratic-Republican party. Unfortunately this party was not able to last beyond 1824 or we would have a very different world than we currently have now. Andrew Jackson decided together with Martin Van Buren that they were going to start the party up again, and together they formed what was called the Jacksonian Democracy party. This party were opposed to the Whig party and made sure that they knew it. They even had weekly meetings for a while.

It wasn’t until 1848 that the Democratic National Committee was formed. This committee came about thanks to a large number of Democrats who decided that they needed to be more organized in order to make the nation a better place. Their first candidate for the Presidential seat was General Lewis Cass. Unfortunately for the party he lost to General Zachary Taylor, a Whig. As time passed a new group of Democrats emerged. Called the Young Americans, they were younger Democrats who were focused on embracing the future, including technology and reform. They wanted to show how American could be amazing on it’s own, and to eschew all of the culture that the country had gained from England.

During the Civil War the Democratic party fell apart a bit, as the split between the North and the South actually caused a split for the party itself. Fortunately, however, after the war was over the party was able to mend and once again it became a strong party, and a good contender to go against Republicans. Read any US politic blog and you’ll find that Democrats and Republicans have many similar ideas, with but a few very different core values. In the end those people who are Democrats can be proud of the history of the Democratic party.
